A Beautiful Small Charles II Oak Side Table

The top, cut from a single oak board, which has a fine marked grain, and a run moulding around all 4 sides. The top is fastened to the rails by 8 square oak pegs. 

Beneath the top is a single side-hung drawer which retains the original moulded decoration around the edge, and also the original turned yew wood knobs, or pulls. 

The table is supported on very well executed barley-twist legs, which are joined at the base by twisted stretchers. Interestingly, and surprisingly, the square toes are original, being a continuation and integral to the leg. Whether it was the joiner’s intention to turn these blocks into small toes, or intentionally leave them square, thus spreading any weight more evenly.

A lovely little table, great colour and patina, in very original condition.
