Windsor
Chairs
Very different from the mass-produced chair familiar in tea shops, a genuine Windsor chair is a work of art. Fashioned from a shaped wooden seat, usually elm, into which the ‘splat’, spindles and legs were morticed, the most common are made from ash, although we also stock the rarer yew wood chairs. Our pieces are generally from the early to mid-19th century, although occasionally rare 18th century ‘cabriole’ leg chairs can be obtained, in addition to the delightful children's Windsors. Often stamped with the maker's name, our chairs have been chosen for their beauty and authenticity, with no replacement parts (unfortunately a common and easy practice).
