A Beautifully Proportioned James I Oak Table or Deed Box
The single board lid, with a triple-moulded edge running all the way around, lifts on the original iron-strap hinges and retains a pair of lopers beneath the top, which are secured by two sets of four square oak pegs.
The shallow front board, with lockplate, complete with hasp and key, is carved with a double row of nulled decoration, the upper being slightly taller than the lower. The vertical end joints have fine chip-carved decoration.
