A Charming and Most Unusual 17th Century Carved Oak Panel
The subject is a young boy concealed behind a tree, supporting a “long” gun which is aimed at distant prey. From in front of the tree, two dogs leap forward.
The background is embellished with tiny punch decoration, interspersed with stylised foliage. The panel is set into quite a complicated run-moulded frame, which would suggest it would have been part of a piece of furniture – perhaps a cupboard.
Good colour and surface.
English, circa 1680-90.
Width 11.25 inches, height 7.5 inches.
Ref 3027
