A Fine and Extremely Rare James I Oak Joint Stool
The single board top, having a triple moulded edge, is secured to the run-moulded side rails by four square oak pegs.
The legs are quite outstanding – having a good circumference and being of a cup and cover design. They are embellished with long reeded decoration, sometimes known as “flutes”, hence the name a fluted leg stool.
The bottom of the leg is turned in a “reel”, which has scratch decoration around the middle. The legs are joined by an extremely wide run moulding.
A wonderfully rare stool, in fine original condition, and of a superb, rich colour.
English, circa 1620.
Width 18 inches, depth 11 inches, height 22 inches.
