A Fine and Rare Tudor Oak Panel
Showing in great detail a soldier, possibly a guard, wearing a capotain-type hat, ruff, pleated doublet, and pantoloon-type breeches, standing in shoes with an exaggerated heel, and holding a polearm in his left hand. Around the edge are highly decorative scrolls, whilst the background has punch decoration.
As well as having great charm, this panel is important as it gives us an insight into the clothing worn in the Tudor period.
English, circa 1500-1520.
Width 8 inches, height 17.5 inches, depth 1.5 inches.
