A Good Pair of Late 16th Century Carved Oak Figures
Often referred to as Caryatid and Atlante, this pair of characters would have formed part of either a headboard from a tester bed, or over-mantel from a fireplace.
Having very detailed faces set above a deep ruff. The male, with crossed arms, whilst the female has a belt around her waist, above down-curving swags, with a tasseled centre.
English, probably Gloucestershire, circa 1600.
