A Highly Impressive and Rare Charles II Oak Settle
The top rail, with original turned finials, carved with arabesque scrolled decoration, above four horizontal panels, with stylised leaves, which are in turn above the central rail decorated with S-scrolls. The six main panels have a lozenge motif, with simple hatched roundels carved at the points. The boarded lift-up seat has a panelled front, with a geometric moulding around the edge of the panels.
Excellent colour and skin.
The characteristic crosshatched "tennis rackets" are very typical of the Halifax area of Yorkshire, circa 1680.
