A Mid-17th Century Oak Joint Stool

The square edged top – similar to the tops of 16th century boarded stools – is secured by four square pegs into a plain frieze with a simple moulding along the bottom edge. The heavy simple baluster-turned legs are joined by sturdy stretchers set high on the squared toes.

A remarkably charismatic stool, with an outstanding leathery surface.

English, probably North Country, circa 1640.

Height 22.5 inches, width 18 inches, depth 11 inches.
