Home Stock An Early Charles II Oak Gateleg Table

An Early Charles II Oak Gateleg Table

The thick plank top, above a single frieze drawer, which retains the original chunky turned knob, supported on heavy baluster turned legs, joined by equally heavy all-round stretchers. The table has two “gates” to support each leaf (known as a double gateleg). The legs of these gates are identical, although slightly smaller scale than the main supports. The table has got great presence due to both its thick top and heavy legs, but also the great colour and surface, which a piece of 17th century oak should possess.

English, circa 1660.

Width 69.5 inches, length 57 inches, height 29 inches.

Ref 935
