A Rare Small Charles I Oak Open Cup-Board or Buffet
Having three open boarded shelves, supported at the front by fine turned columns and plain rectangular supports to the rear. The top rail is decorated with moulded dentils and superb split baluster turnings, which continue around the sides.
Below the centre shelf is a side-hung drawer, which again has turned balusters to decorate the front, whilst the bottom rail is left plain.
This is the second time in 40 years I have owned this remarkable piece of furniture, having recently bought it back from a collector. It is the most beautifully proportioned buffet I have come across, not only being small in the width, but beautifully narrow back to front. The colour, patina and condition are outstanding.
English, probably East Anglia, circa 1630.
Width 42.5 inches, height 44 inches, depth 15 inches.
