A Pair of 19th Century Low Back Windsor Armchairs

Both chairs having a stylised fleur de lys (with two eyebrows), fretted top splat and a simple bottom splat, with two frets. The arm turnings are very typical of the Worksop and Rockley chair making tradition, and were used from the 1820s onwards. However, these chairs can be dated by their “three-ring” leg turnings to around the 1840s. Frederick Walker, Elizabeth Gabbitass, all used this type of leg, but it will never be found on a chair by Nicholson or Wheatland. 

Both chairs have a good colour and are in very original condition.
