A Fine Charles II Lancashire Oak Side Chair

The shallow arched cresting, with central stylised flower, flanked by further horizontal flowers and twining leaves. To either side of the central flower are the initials T and O.

The central panel also contains a central flower and this time is flanked by the initials E and O. Further flowers, leaves and scrolls complete the carved decoration. The bottom rail of the back has multiple horizontal run-mouldings.

The boarded seat, with simple edge moulding, sits on rails which are run-moulded and supported by well-turned baluster legs joined by all-round stretchers.

It would be fair to assume that the initials T O and E O represent a husband and wife and that the chair was given as a wedding gift.

Unusually deep and rich carving, excellent colour and surface.
