A 17th Century Oak Back Stool or Side Chair

The back, with two horizontal scroll-carved arched splats, with wavy top edge, and hanging acorn pendants below, supported between two uprights with inward-facing scrolls to the tops. The uprights are decorated with unusually long split baluster turnings.

The inset seat is made from a single oak board, and supported by bobbin and reel turned legs, joined by a similarly turned centre stretcher, and stand on the original turned toes.

A very elegant example of a South Yorkshire/Derbyshire chair, which has a lovely rich colour and patina.
