An Early Charles II Oak Settle
The triple panel back, with large central lozenge carving, decorated with whorls in the corners, below a wonderfully shaped top rail, with six carved lunettes, each with a stylised leaf centre, and further punch-decoration. The scrolling crest to the top rail is a most unusual feature – very reminiscent of crests found on wainscot chairs of the same period.
The seat is formed from a single oak board, and is supported on simple turned baluster legs, joined by run-moulded stretchers.
Beautiful condition, colour and surface.
Gloucestershire, circa 1660.
Width 50 inches, height 40 inches, depth 21 inches.
