A Superb Charles II Oak Serving Dresser
Having tremendous presence, the boarded top above 3 cushion-moulded drawers, separated by a “D” moulding. Below the drawers is a bold waist-moulding, to the centre are two cupboard doors, again cushion-moulded, and further embellished with geometric panels – a lovely feature are the two arched panels to the tops of the cupboard doors. Flanking the cupboard are further cushion and geometrically moulded drawers. The bottom of the dresser is finished by deep moulding and supported on short stile feet.
Wonderful deep nutty brown colour and original patina.
English, possibly Lancashire (many, many years ago – by repute – the base was bought from a hotel in the North West, since then it has been in a private collection on the Welsh borders). Circa 1680, probably one of the finest 17th century bases to have come on the market.
Width 81 inches, depth 22 inches, height 39 inches.
