A William and Mary Oak Winged Armchair

The single raised panel back, beneath a broken arched cresting rail, flanked on either side by most unusual heart-shaped finials, which are an integral part of the panel’s frame. The deeply curved “wings” sit on broad, flat, outward-curving arms, which again have a simple panel below.

This winged chair was not made with a boarded seat, but instead has a continual rope base to support a cushion.

In beautiful, untouched condition – with the exception of the cushion, which is old velvet, filled with horsehair. Wonderful colour and patina.

English, possibly Lancashire, circa 1690.

Height 46 inches, width 28.5 inches, depth 20 inches.
