A Very Fine Set of Five 19th Century Copper Pans by Benham & Froud
Of the highest quality – as one would expect from such highly skilled coppersmiths, these five graduated porridge pans, or brandy warmers, have the original tight-fitting lids, and turned fruitwood handles.
Stamped to the underside is the orb and cross “trademark” of Benham & Froud, Coppersmiths, of London. This trademark came about as the firm made the replacement copper cross (weighing over 7 tonnes and still in place) in 1821, for St Paul’s Cathedral.
English, London, circa 1855.
The tallest is 8 inches in height, the smallest 3.75 inches in height.
Provenance – from the collection of a highly regarded Essex metalware collector.
