An Extraordinarily Captivating Camel Back Sofa
With arched back and outward-curving arms, the frame, probably made by Howard & Sons of London, at the beginning of the last century. The upholstery is a wonderful soft red velvet, trimmed with hand-stitched piping and deep tasselled fringe, which was carried out in the early 1980s. Unlike many sofas, this was certainly made to be free-standing and seen from both the front and back.
English, circa 1920.
Width across the arms 73 inches, maximum depth 34 inches, height in the middle of the back 33.5 inches, height to the arms 26 inches.
