George and The Dragon - A Good and Rare 16th Century Nuremberg Brass Alms Dish
According to tradition, George slew the dragon after his demands for the life of a princess (shown left of centre). George rescues the princess, transfixing the monster with his lance, and killing it with his sword (held above his head).
Around the central picture is a band of Gothic script, within a gadrooned boodge and rolled outer edge to the rim.
Fine condition, lovely colour.
Nuremberg circa 1550.
