A Fine Charles II Oak Side Chair

The two horizontal back splats are decorated with a rare combination of scrolls, and more unusually, stylised tulip heads. The top of the splats have the traditional scalloped outline, whilst the undersides retain their original turned ash pendants.

The uprights of the chair are decorated with split baluster turnings – again turned in ash – with three simple thumb-gouge indents, beneath the inward-facing scrolled tops.

The original panelled seat runs from front to back and is formed from two boards set into a moulded frame, and supported on baluster-turned legs joined by a turned front stretcher.

Fabulous colour and patina.

English, Yorkshire, circa 1670.

Height 41.5 inches, width 18.5 inches, depth 15.5 inches.

Ref 2658
