A Good Late 17th Century Verdure Tapestry Panel

Depicting an idyllic country scene - a figure seated at the base of a tree, with an open wicker basket to his side, plays a tune on a lute for his friends to dance to - two boys and two girls. Behind the dancers a couple of sheep graze.

The panel is beautifully proportioned, with the main characters filling the centre ground. Over their heads is a canopy of tree branches and leaves, in the immediate foreground are two flowering shrubs.

Flemish, last quarter of the 17th century.

Height 84 inches x width 67 inches.
