A James II Oak Low Serving Dresser
Having the most beautiful proportions, the twin boarded top, secured to the under rails by small oak pegs, retains the original moulded plate rest, set 4 inches in from the back edge, and the whole top is finished around the top with a deep ovolo moulding.
Beneath the top are three oak-lined drawers, each with a double raised (or cushioned) moulded front, retaining original brass escutcheons and pear-drop pulls. The drawers sit above a dep waist moulding, which continues around the side of the base.
The inverted baluster-turned legs are of the most elegant form, embellished top and bottom with ring turnings finishing with the original turned toes. The side stretchers are again original.
Colour and patina, or surface, are “simply the best”.
English, circa 1685-90.
Length 77 inches, depth 20 inches, height 35 inches.
