A Pair of Eighteenth Century Brass Petal-Based Candlesticks by George Grove and Joseph Wood
With brazing lines running from the sockets down through the stems. Interestingly, although a totally matching pair, one candlestick is stamped by the maker George Grove, whilst the other is stamped Joseph Wood. This would seem to indicate that both makers enjoyed a close working relationship. The combination of the two names has been traced on other pairs – see Eloy Koldeweij’s The English Candlestick, page 113, catalogue 87.
English, London or Birmingham, circa 1750.
Height 7.5 inches.
