Pair of Low Back Yew Wood Armchairs
A fine pair of late Georgian yew wood low back Windsor armchairs. The use of a flattened, curved arm support, sometimes called a "lamb chop" support, nearly always seen with the single-ring turned leg, indicates an early chair from the small hamlet of Rockley, near Retford, Nottinghamshire. Although unsigned, this pair was made by William Wheatland (fl 1822-1828) or George Nicholson (fl 1831-1841).
Rockley, circa 1810-1820.
This pair is sold, but I do have other examples of this design.
