A Rare Late 15th Century Oak Pierced Tracery Panel
The bottom figures are presented as “no-bodies”, supporting a shallow arch, surmounted by a pair of winged cherubs holding a horizontal staff.
The top of the panel is carved with a Gothic arch, with a winged lion in the centre. The winged lion is the sign of St Mark. Delicate open tracery completes the top, with stylised leaves and quatrefoils.
The shape and form suggests the panel formed part of a rood screen.
English, circa 1470.
