A Rare Yew Wood Child's Windsor Armchair Stamped Nicholson, Rockley
A beautifully proportioned child's Windsor chair, made in well-grained yew, with an elm seat. Probably this chair was made as a special request, and shows the skill of George Nicholson as a chairmaker. The arm turnings are more complicated than one would expect on a miniature chair, whilst the legs are quite superb, terminating in a little "spring onion" type swelling. Stamped to the side of the seat is Nicholson, Rockley.
George Nicholson, Rockley, fl 1831-1841.
Height 26 inches.
