Yew Wood Windsor Armchairs 19th Century

Two very fine yew wood Windsor armchairs, of slightly larger than normal proportions. The chairs are unquestionably from the same Worksop maker, although the centre splats are very slightly different. In every other respect, the chairs are identical, the leg turnings and arm turnings being of the same complicated design. The colour of the yew wood in both chairs is also identical, a rich, deep red, with a little pale orange of the sapwood showing on the arm hoops. The chairs have been together since they were made, which would be around 1830, probably from the workshop of John Gabbitass of Worksop (fl 1822-1839). Until recently, the chairs were together on an estate in Guernsey.

Height 47 inches.
